Monkey Chant 7p next Thursday, 7/17, Koru House, 1704 SE 22nd Ave
A small group of interested persons is planning to gather on a monthly basis to practice monkey chant. Our first scheduled gathering will be next Thursday, 7/17, 7:00pm at the Koru House, 1704 SE 22nd Ave, Portland OR 97214.
If you are interested in monkey chant, please join us! The more people we have to hold each part, the easier it is to stay together and the more powerful the feeling of the chant is.
If you would like take part in the discussion, planning and scheduling of future chants, please respond to paul@paulparks.com.
Grady Cousins will be back in the Portland area the first part of October. We are looking forward to him leading us in chant at that time. Exact time and place TBD.
Monkey chant is group chanting led in rounds, accompanied by hand gestures. The current form was created in the 1930s and is an interpretation of ancient sanghyang, a Balinese trance dance performed in temples as a meditation. For more information see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kecak.
To see a performance of it as featured in the film Baraka, see
www.youtube.com/watch
To see Grady leading a group of us at Burning Man last year, go here

But these recordings fall short of capturing the heart-stopping, spine-tingling, spellbinding power of a live experience.
