I'm thinking about going to SOAK this year-- but could use a few enthusiastic testimonials!

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 12:51 PMI went to SOAK for the first time last year...and it was the first must go event on my calendar this year! The vibe I felt there was like no other, for the first time I was comfortable being who I am and comfortable in my own skin, I didn't feel judged....more like part of something amazing. I have been fire dancing for years so far, but I had the most overwhelming response from the crowd gathering around me that I chalk up as one of the best times I have had lit up to date. There were 4 sound stages which were playing great beats...colorful costumes, tons of hugging and smiles, wonderful people, and of course a swimming hole! I would suggest going, but I am sure you would have too much fun!
HUGS! ***hope to see you there****

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 12:55 PMAhem... there may actually be some people you know there from other parts of the country...
<raises hand>
I can't testify, cuz I'll be a SOAK newbie too. But I'm enthusiastic... does that count? -

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 5:55 PMActually, we will have visitors from the other coast coming just for the event...

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 4:46 PMThis will be my fourth year.
It's close. It's affordable. There is shade. It's like camping with music and cool visual stuff. There are no free tater tots or bacon camps so make sure to bring food.

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 10:17 PMSorry Lucian but you're wrong.
Last year I didn't see any free bacon but 2 years ago my camp was giving away blt's and when we ran out of bacon there was a camp about 20 yards away doing bacon and burbon so pepps just grabbed from there.
S.O.A.K IS A MUST! -

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 10:17 AMTwo years ago, I also did a mimosa/breakfast burrito & cartoon morning for anyone who dropped by. I wasn't as ambitious last year...

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 11:28 AMAll excellent points--- great friends that i know, bacon loving people i don't know, camping, proximity to my current locale... but are there any other overwhelming, need-to-go, "you're a fool if you don't" reasons for attending THE event of the Oregon summer??? -

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 1:54 PMIf you need to ask, you wouldn't understand. -

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 2:45 PMSo mark you down as "not worth it," eh Kirk? -
-
Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 3:08 PMOh, it's going to suck so hard, Lantern. You should stay home and go see a movie, or go to the mall ,or something like that.

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 3:10 PMdepends on mindset, after attending every soak since its inception, i would love to go this year but don't have the green. we are NOT GOING TO BEG ANYONE TO COME! if you feel like you need convincing to be present and participate in our get together, we actually would rather you are somewhere more suiting your eminence. if you want to check it out and it ain't your cup of tea, the door is open, but you will never find out this way. and i have known kirk a long time. if he is there, its safety third! -

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 3:33 PMSheeeeesh!
Let's not get all pretentious. I'm just here for a few stories and a laugh.
I'll have to reread Sabrina's and BnB's posts to clear my palate...

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 4:37 PMWhat happens at SOAK, stays at SOAK. And then gets posted on facebook.
Lantern, its a fun time. Very cool people doing very stupid things at very late hours very loudly.
And you used "pretentious" incorrectly. I think you meant maybe "condescending", perhaps? Cause that is kind of what I was aiming for.

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 5:25 PMThere are a lot of people at SOAK eschewing issues of personal safety, exercising very poor judgement, and generally putting themselves at risk of harm and being dangers to themselves and others. Or as I like to refer to them, "my friends". I'll be the one hiding inside the bottle of absinthe. -

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 4:39 PMTo be honest Lantern, what I am getting from you and your posts, is that you are looking to have an experience handed to you on a platter. That is not what this event is about. My experience in past SOAKS was very different then Elaine's, or Mindfunk's or anyone's. My experience this year will be different the BnB's.
How much more do you need to know, then it a weekend filled with beautiful Portland (and other location) burners and/or kindred souls, camping in an incredibly beautiful location. -

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Fri, June 19, 2009 - 5:01 PMI actually know Lantern, and I suspect (although I don't know for sure) that his intent didn't come through. I totally get the way everyone's reading it; not sure that was what he was aiming for. This all may not be worth the energy that's going into it...

Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Mon, June 29, 2009 - 5:18 PMWe're not "apes with chainsaws", we're "gate".
And tell the truth. You went thru the line 20 times for the anal rape, not the illusion of whiskey. -
-
Re: SOAK up the suspense?
Tue, June 30, 2009 - 12:32 AMFair enough. I hate whiskey and love anal ape. Are we on agreeable friendly terms now? LOL If not, oh well... There isn't much more you would inflict on me that I wouldn't ask for, anyway....
