I'm thinking about going to SOAK this year-- but could use a few enthusiastic testimonials!
Do you have one?

I went to SOAK for the first time last year...and it was the first must go event on my calendar this year! The vibe I felt there was like no other, for the first time I was comfortable being who I am and comfortable in my own skin, I didn't feel judged....more like part of something amazing. I have been fire dancing for years so far, but I had the most overwhelming response from the crowd gathering around me that I chalk up as one of the best times I have had lit up to date. There were 4 sound stages which were playing great beats...colorful costumes, tons of hugging and smiles, wonderful people, and of course a swimming hole! I would suggest going, but I am sure you would have too much fun!

HUGS! ***hope to see you there****

This will be my fourth year.

It's close. It's affordable. There is shade. It's like camping with music and cool visual stuff. There are no free tater tots or bacon camps so make sure to bring food.

      Sorry Lucian but you're wrong.
Last year I didn't see any free bacon but 2 years ago my camp was giving away blt's and when we ran out of bacon there was a camp about 20 yards away doing bacon and burbon so pepps just grabbed from there.

      S.O.A.K IS A MUST!

All excellent points--- great friends that i know, bacon loving people i don't know, camping, proximity to my current locale... but are there any other overwhelming, need-to-go, "you're a fool if you don't" reasons for attending THE event of the Oregon summer???

If you need to ask, you wouldn't understand.

So mark you down as "not worth it," eh Kirk?

depends on mindset, after attending every soak since its inception, i would love to go this year but don't have the green. we are NOT GOING TO BEG ANYONE TO COME! if you feel like you need convincing to be present and participate in our get together, we actually would rather you are somewhere more suiting your eminence. if you want to check it out and it ain't your cup of tea, the door is open, but you will never find out this way. and i have known kirk a long time. if he is there, its safety third!

                Sheeeeesh!
Let's not get all pretentious. I'm just here for a few stories and a laugh.
I'll have to reread Sabrina's and BnB's posts to clear my palate...

What happens at SOAK, stays at SOAK. And then gets posted on facebook.

Lantern, its a fun time. Very cool people doing very stupid things at very late hours very loudly.

And you used "pretentious" incorrectly. I think you meant maybe "condescending", perhaps? Cause that is kind of what I was aiming for.

There are a lot of people at SOAK eschewing issues of personal safety, exercising very poor judgement, and generally putting themselves at risk of harm and being dangers to themselves and others. Or as I like to refer to them, "my friends". I'll be the one hiding inside the bottle of absinthe.

To be honest Lantern, what I am getting from you and your posts, is that you are looking to have an experience handed to you on a platter. That is not what this event is about. My experience in past SOAKS was very different then Elaine's, or Mindfunk's or anyone's. My experience this year will be different the BnB's.

How much more do you need to know, then it a weekend filled with beautiful Portland (and other location) burners and/or kindred souls, camping in an incredibly beautiful location.
